Persuasive speech

Paragraph 1 –

Kia ora my name is Sandra and I am writing this speech to persuade others why New Zealand should keep our national flag. This is important because our flag has a lot of meaning to it. It has been around for years and proudly displayed on the sleeves of the New Zealand armed forces in a number of wars.

Paragraph 2 –

Have you ever wondered why people would want to change our flag, it's ridiculous I get so confused as to why people are moaning that their vote didn't count. Our flag is important to us as kiwis because it is our identity. To take away our identity  is like ignoring the past and the memories of those who gave their lives and traveled across overseas to fight for our country. As a country we can not show disrespect to the ANZACS and the iwi who took part in the fight for freedom.
Paragraph 3 –

Paying for another flag will cost millions of dollars, dollars that could be used to help others. The flags that were designed had bold colours but don't they realize that our national flag has the 4 stars on it that represent the southern cross? The stars that point north, south, west and east are part of who we are. Our voyagers used those stars at night to cross the wide pacific to find the beautiful island of Aoateroa.
Paragraph 4 –

My point is, imagine all that money used to design new flags that didn't get chosen. Instead of wasting money on new designs the government should think wisely about what they're doing, and use the money to help those who are below the breadline, not being able to provide the food that their families need.
Paragraph 5 –

To all those who chose not to keep our flag, remember to think about the decisions you made. Someone took the time and effort to make our national flag that we fly today. Would you want that person's effort to be wasted or break the hearts of those who left their beloved families to fight for us.

Paragraph 6 -

I don’t think so! I speak today to thank those who chose to keep our flag and I totally agreed to keep the flag because of the people who  thought that it was better if we spent the money on people who are below the breadline.

L.I To write a  speech to persuade other the way you think

For the past 3 weeks, in writing we have been writing a persuasive speech about what topic. I had choose to write about why New Zealand should keep our national lag, I found this topic interesting because I liked learning about some of the meanings, History behind our national flag and why it is important to us as Kiwi. The feed forward that I would give myself is  I need to work on being confident, I also would give myself this feedback because I was really good at speaking clearly. When I was reading my speech I was using a lot of eye contact because showing the audience eye contact will let them know that we are speaking to them.
